A new antibiotic discovered by Naicons

Naicons, biotech corporate located in Fondazione Filarete, together with the Waksman Institute of Microbiology of Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Ganni Dehò and Thomas Carzaniga of the University of Milano discovered a new antibiotic: the pseudouridimycin (named PUM) identified from a microorganism isolated in 1991 form Bolgheri region (Tuscany, Italy). The new antibiotic is described in a paper on the last number of Cell magazine; PUM action is different from the way in which traditionally used antibiotics work, being effective against antibiotic-resistance microorganism.
